The StraightA Conspiracy Your Secret Guide to Ending the Stress of School and Totally Ruling the World (Audible Audio Edition) Hunter Maats Katie O'Brien LLC 368 Press Books

I work as a college academic counselor and basically work with students that are struggling academically. I think this is a great book for anywhere from junior high thru high school even some college freshman that need a bit of help. It is written for the student but could also be helpful for parent to read if parent is involved with their childs school and trying to help them. It gives pointers on why some students are the way they are (ex. the student isn't really 'dumb' or not smart enough for the class or 'just too lazy' but may actually be afraid of failure so would rather be seen as lazy, etc.) Gives ways to build confidence in self as a student and gives pointers for specifics areas most students struggle in (test taking, paper writing, math, etc.) Provides great examples, too.

The StraightA Conspiracy Your Secret Guide to Ending the Stress of School and Totally Ruling the World (Audible Audio Edition) Hunter Maats Katie O'Brien LLC 368 Press Books Reviews

I teach a high school course for struggling students. These are kids who have tremendous aptitude but have lost confidence in their ability to be good students. They think of themselves as not smart, bad at math, and believe those "facts" will never change. Reading this book together has transformed their stinking thinking and given them simple tools to begin turning those grades around. Understanding that practice is what makes a genius and that all information was once new to everyone on earth has given them hope that they, too, can master everything from Algebra to Elizabethan sonnets. I cannot recommend this book highly enough!
This is a great read and not just for those in high-school. I wish I had known many of the techniques mentioned in this book when I was younger. It would have helped me stress a lot less about school. This book promotes the proper routes of learning. The genius myth is sold to us all the time, and this book allows the reader to see through the facade.
I read at a 4th grade level until I was 26. I did not know how to read very well because I did not read and I did not read because I believed I could not read. I was given a book called The Greatest miracle in the world, two things happened the first I was inspired the second I realized I could read. I read this book when I was 59 the information open my mind I also read the book mindset and the Power of Habit. I now realize my intelligence is not limited by my birth I can become smarter through Reading.
I loved this book. I bought it for my grandson, before I had read it myself, as a gift at his 8th grade graduation. Now, I have to find a way to get him to read it.

I just wish I had read it in high school. I honestly believe it would have made a big difference. Knowing what to do in school to get the most out of it, is an education in itself. This book would help so many students. Please, do not pass this up if you want to succeed at learning.
I read this as an adult curious about learning and as a fan of Hunter Maats from his podcast with Bryan Callen. The book is targeted toward high school/ college age kids and would be an incredible resource. As a parent, you could learn a lot from this as well, and it would be a wonderful book to discuss with even the most reluctant kid. It focuses on the technique of learning and overcoming different types of self-imposed learning obstacles. I found myself taking notes to apply to my work life and critical thinking. The book is written in a very conversational style and the tools are very concrete and applicable. Recommended to help anyone with the skill of learning.
I found this book to be great for stimulating discussions on effective ways of studying, learning, and teaching. I belong to different communities with focuses on innovative methods of teaching. The authors are very experienced tutors and know excellent techniques of explaining difficult topics, such as composite functions in an easy way. I will recommend this book to K-12 students but also to college freshmen as well as to teachers and teaching assistants. This is a terrific book for all ages. It was really enjoyable to discuss the topics presented in the book with my husband and daughter. Each of us has a different education background and learning experiences, and each of us has some teaching experience too. The book is inspirational and motivating for everyone. We had a wonderful exchange of our interpretations and reflections after reading this book. I would love to invite the authors to the classroom with students who have read their book for a discussion. I have no doubts that several of these types of interactions with diverse groups would motivate these very talented and passionate authors to write another book with new fascinating discoveries and new tips on how to enjoy learning and be successful in school.
I've read through the book and I'm reading through the book with both of my sons who are on the Autism spectrum. I love how the book lays out not only the techniques for studying and getting good grades, but without making them feel dumb, explains exactly why they haven't been successful so far and exactly why it is they can do this.

They seem to be understanding. #2 son is starting school today and #1 son starts in a couple weeks.

I would love to get this book into the hands of middle school teachers everywhere. Let's face it. Most of the subjects we learn in High School aren't that important but these skills that we use to apply to those subjects are the critical skills for life.
